Replacement of 11 composite doors for Molendinar Park

Partner: Molendinar Park Housing Association

Supplier: Sidey

Framework: WD2

Project Description/Background/Project Overview

Manufacture, supply and installation of 11 composite doors

Replacement of 11 existing composite main entrance doors as part of a planned maintenance programme for Molendinar Housing Association. Sidey was appointed through direct award via the Scottish Procurement Alliance PVC-U & Timber Windows & Doors WD2 framework.

Sidey arranged for its surveyors to visit the tenanted properties, prior to the visit all tenants were notified, and access was granted without any issues. The association selected the doors from a range of high quality options that Sidey presented. The availability and choice that was given to the association was useful as there were some instances of individual requirements in certain areas where there was a need for colour options to maintain consistency in the surrounding area.

All of the composite doors installed were certified by PAS24 and Secured by Design. The doors were manufactured at Sidey’s state of the art 100,000-square-foot factory in Perth.

Feedback gathered from the tenants revealed that they are delighted with the functionality and aesthetics of the new entrance doors highlighting the distinct difference in heat retention as the doors are free from drafts. Additionally, there were no snagging issues reported by the tenants or the association.

Sidey has been supplying social landlords and homeowners with high-quality windows and doors for over 90 years.

Partnership working

This was the first project that Molendinar Park Housing Association had undertaken with Scottish Procurement Alliance following their registration as a partner in March 2023.

Utilising part of our added value services the association benefitted from advice and guidance given by client support which assisted them with locating the most suitable framework for their requirements, they also received guidance to assist them in calling off from the framework and to understand what the next steps were as well as having attendance from our technical support team at the pre start meeting. Since the completion of this project, Molendinar has registered and awarded a similar project that is 3 times the size with a further five projects in the pipeline.

It was only a matter of weeks from when the project was registered and EOI’s were received to work commencing. Molendinar had set out a detailed timeline of when they required work to start which was communicated with Sidey prior to their expression of interest being submitted. The timeline originally forecasted was achieved and the work was delivered on time and within budget.

Why SPA?

The level of support offered by SPA has substantially benefitted our organisation, as a small housing association our procurement provision is limited, we are a small team with large ambitions managing over 800 properties. The scale of the challenge to maintain these properties can at times be difficult coupled with ensuring the properties we manage are compliant and meet the requirements set out by current legislation.

Using SPA’s frameworks has saved time considerably as it removes the need to go out to open tender, we are able to match our requirements with the vast range of frameworks that SPA can provide, and we are confident that the appointed companies have gone through their paces to be awarded a place.

From the initial conversations that we had with SPA we found their team to be very helpful, our Client Support Manager was attentive and responsive to all of our questions and assisted us throughout explaining each stage thoroughly which had a positive impact on our experience. Having the technical support and representation at the pre-start and progress meetings helped us to stay on schedule and to budget it also helped us to make key decisions utilising SPA’s collective knowledge and expertise.

The partnership between Molendinar Housing Association and Scottish Procurement Alliance proved to be highly beneficial. SPA's frameworks, support services, and team contributed to the smooth execution of the project, resulting in satisfied tenants and an enhanced reputation for Molendinar. This successful collaboration sets the stage for future projects between the two organisations and showcases the advantages of leveraging SPA's expertise and verified suppliers for public sector organisations.
